Community Engagement at Grace Chapel Wilmington

Fostering Initiative

Community Engagement
Grace Chapel Wilmington Campus

At Grace Chapel's Wilmington campus, we have an audacious, God-given goal…to see every vulnerable child in our region in a safe and supportive family.  To that end, we mobilize and equip people to serve the fostering community in ways that align with their gifting and capacity.

  • We support, strengthen, and encourage biological families whose lives have been affected by trouble and trauma.
  • We build wrap-around teams to provide ongoing practical support and encouragement for foster and adoptive families.
  • We provide trauma-informed training for our congregation so we can create safe spaces for kids who have experienced hard things.
  • We build relationships and support social workers and staff at our nearby Department of Children & Families (DCF) office.
  • We partner with Fostering Hope – an organization that guides  churches and individuals to impactful and sustainable service to the foster care community. Fostering Hope connects us with local agencies, current needs, and resources of support.
  • We encourage people to consider opening their home for foster care and/or adoption.  And then we walk alongside them through the process, providing training, support, and connection into a vibrant foster care/adoptive family community right here in our church!

How can I get involved?

1.  Foster a child

If you want to explore what fostering a child entails, contact Fostering Hope at FosteringHope.org

2.  Be Curious

Books, like "All In" by Jason Johnson, may be helpful as you seek to learn more about the foster care need and/or to provide healing care for children affected by foster care.

3.  Support Foster and Adoptive Families

Join a wrap-around team to support families who have become foster homes.  Wrap-around teams engage in a variety of activities which include prayer, providing meals, mentoring, and even occasional respite.  For more information, contact Ali Broughton.

4.  Support DCF (Department of Families & Children) Staff

Are you an organized person?  Love tidying up?  Then this opportunity is for you! Join a team that goes into the DCF office in Burlington on a monthly basis.  We help organize the "closet" (a room, really) where donations are received.  This is a small commitment that has a huge impact for the DCF social workers.  For more information, contact Kim Cogswell.

5.  Pray for children and families

Our partners at Fostering Hope provide daily (M-F) prayer prompts for the foster care community and for local children who need adoption families.
