Introducing Our Candidate for Senior Pastor,
Dr. Mateus de Campos
On July 16th we shared that the Board of Elders was prepared to nominate a Senior Pastor candidate based on the recommendation from the Senior Pastor Search Committee. We are pleased to announce our Senior Pastor candidate: Dr. Mateus de Campos!
Dr. de Campos currently serves at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary as the George F. Bennett Associate Professor of New Testament. He is the author of Bible commentaries on 2 Peter, Jude, and Ephesians, among other publications. Originally from Brazil, Dr. de Campos previously served as a pastor for ten years at the Church of the Nazarene in Americana, Brazil, where he preached, taught, and developed ministries.
You may have seen Dr. de Campos at Grace Chapel, where he joined us as a guest preacher last summer.
Dr. de Campos has spoken at numerous churches and conferences in the United States, Brazil and across the globe. He remains actively engaged in preaching and teaching in local churches in New England, Brazil, and abroad, ministering across various denominations within the evangelical tradition. Currently, in addition to his teaching role at the seminary, he is serving as the interim pastor of West Church in Haverhill, MA while writing commentaries on the Gospel of Mark and on the discipleship narratives in the Gospels.
Dr. de Campos resides in Middleton, MA, with his wife, Renata, and their children, Matt and Zoe.
From the beginning of our search, our search committee has relied on God’s direction and prayerful discernment to discover the person God is calling to be the next Senior Pastor of Grace Chapel. In partnership with search firm Vanderbloemen, and through a candidacy process guided by criteria that our search committee developed with input from across our congregation and through the Vital Church survey, we are excited to arrive at the nomination of our final candidate.
Per our criteria, Dr. de Campos’ experience, character, faith, beliefs, and approach to ministry aligns with our mission, vision, and values. We believe his strong foundation of biblical teaching, his vibrant spiritual life, and his fostering of cultural diversity equip him to be our next Senior Pastor.
We thank you for your support and participation throughout the search process. We are grateful for all the nominations we received from our congregation for our search committee, as well as the many candidates our congregation nominated. Thank you also for your prayers and patience as our search committee conducted multiple rounds of interviews and spent hundreds of hours reviewing sermon footage and praying for God’s guidance throughout this process.
