“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” (Isaiah 44:22)

There was a rebellious time in college when I decided I wasn’t going to attend church, and I was going to be the one to find a path for myself. I felt like God got in the way, and I didn’t want him nor need him. During my senior year, I somehow found myself back into church; however, I always felt like an imposter because of my 3 years of rebellion. Then one day, during a prayer night with a guest pastor, he said a prayer directed specifically at me. I still remember the prayer…”it doesn’t matter that you ran away from me. I am happy that you have returned because you were always welcomed. The doors were never closed. They were wide open for your return.” All the shame, hurt, and unworthy feelings I was harboring got freed that night, and I cried a flood of tears that washed them away.

Regardless of our past mistakes, there is an open invitation to return to our Father that doesn’t have a time stamp. Our transgressions do not disqualify us from God’s purpose in us. Our restoration and redemption have been and are secured through the blood of Christ. There is no “earning” back God’s graces; instead, there is accepting God’s invitation and assurance to forgiveness, grace, and love.

Will you accept God’s invitation to return to Him for He is waiting patiently and eagerly with arms open wide?

Prayer Prompt: Dear Abba Father, We long for and delight in the relationship we have with you. You see into the depths of our hearts where there is hurt, turmoil, and worries. We ask that you take those things and mold them into something beautiful and worthy. Although we aren’t worthy, you shower us with forgiveness, love, and mercy. May we follow the plans you have laid out for us, and may our hearts be yours forever and ever. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
