After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!” Revelation 7:9-12
How many times have we said things like: “That’s awesome!” about things that are, if we’re honest, not really awe-inspiring if we actually took time to think about what awe really means? I know I have done it many times. Then there are moments when something really is awe-inspiring, like the Grand Canyon at sunset, or a hillside of trees in Vermont full of color in autumn.. But then there is what is depicted in the verses above, which God gave John the privilege of seeing and writing about in the book of Revelation. That is on another level entirely. God truly is awe-some, awe-inspiring, so great and glorious, that all those in His presence fall down before Him in worship and adoration. Can you even imagine?
And what is also amazing, and what shows the power and incredible plan and purpose of God, is that God makes sure John points out that before the throne of God was a group of people so large that they were uncountable—from EVERY nation, tribe, people and language. Every single one. Friends, the Gospel of forgiveness of and salvation from sin through trusting in Jesus’ death on the cross really is Good news for everyone who receives Him in faith. It was God’s purpose to bring people of every ethnic group and culture to Himself, and when they all worship Him together, His glory is magnified! As we celebrate Global Awareness Week, let us be sensitive to hear how God may lead us to be used by Him to bring many more people to know Him and bring Him even more glory and praise.
Prayer Prompt: Father God, You are Greater than we could ever imagine, and yet You love us so much that You sent Jesus to die for us so we could be forgiven and be alive in You. Realizing the awesomeness of what it will be like to one day see You face-to-face, make us willing to follow You wherever You lead, to make disciples of all nations, so that You will get more and more glory, for You are so worthy of it all. Amen.
