“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” (Romans 12:2 TPT)
Part of our Christian journey is to begin to distinguish the voice of the Holy Spirit from the voices of the enemy of our soul, our culture, and our fleshly desires for all affect our thinking.
This verse is a picture of being unraveled from the worldly systems and past hurts and traumas, and being entwined and fully empowered with the counsel and wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, to live our best lives in Christ. We need to discern how the subtle effects of putting yourself first, the effects of past hurts or trauma that need healing, or the effects of not knowing who you truly are in Christ, impact our thinking. How are our preferences or ways of functioning affected by the opinions and ideals of the culture, rather than by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God? We need to allow the Holy Spirit to counsel, protect, and redirect our thoughts which have been trained by the enemy of our soul, worldly culture, and the fleshly desires that tear us down. When we allow this process of unraveling by the Holy Spirit, we can then be entwined with Him, in a new way of living and thinking led by His Spirit, His Word and His Ways.
The Holy Spirit desires to build us up into our identity of who Christ says we are. His thoughts and ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9) and we must seek these higher ways through prayer, His word and His Spirit. No matter where we find ourselves, this will lead us to healing, as we live out His will and purpose for our lives. Let us daily ask for a new heavenly perspective and counsel from the Holy Spirit, and transformation of our thinking. Are there areas that Holy Spirit is highlighting in your life? Areas where He wants to transform your thinking and empower you to live a more purposeful life in Him? Ask for a fresh infilling of His Holy Spirit.
Prayer Prompt: Father God, I welcome your Holy Spirit to transform my heart and mind to know Your heart and thoughts more fully. Today, I invite you to show me areas in my life that do not align with Your will and wisdom for my life. Thank you that you do not leave me alone in this, but equip me with the counsel and wisdom of your Holy Spirit to be transformed by your Word. Please unravel me from everything that opposes Jesus and entwine me to your Word and Spirit, to a better way of living and thinking. I am grateful that I will not do this in my own strength but by yielding to Holy Spirit to redirect my walk and thoughts with you each day. Thank you that your love casts out all fear (1John 4:18) so I can be and do all that you have determined for me to live a purposeful life in Christ. May this be so in my life. I pray this in the Mighty Powerful Name of Jesus.
