“Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.” (Psalm 24:8)
There are many dimensions to the word glory.
First and foremost, God is intrinsically glorious – it is who God is – great, magnificent, and overwhelming in His presence. He is worthy of our praise and unwilling to share it with any other ((Isaiah 43:7)
Then there is the manifestation of God’s glory which is when the invisible qualities of God are made visible or put on display.
We speak of this often in creation. The heavens declare the glory of God. (Psalm 19:1) A full harvest moon, crashing waves at the beach from a storm out at sea, or a cool front clearing out the hazy hot and humid for cooler and crisp – it’s all the glory of God shining forth.
As creatures we have all fallen short of the glory of God. But since we are created in the image of God, there are also parts of us that can emulate the character of God. In doing so, the character of God has gone public for the world to witness and know. This has been the essence of the current sermon series: God is each fruit of the Spirit absolute, and we can radiate these same qualities just like the moon radiates the light from the sun.
