“What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:28-31-32)

It can be intimidating to come before a Holy God, especially when we have messed up or if we are deeply aware of our flaws. But as we come into that secret place to meet with him, he is waiting eagerly. He desires us to come for we can only be changed in his presence. His forgiveness, his everlasting arms lays the foundation for our confidence to approach, He is not surprised by our sin for  “he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.” (Psalm 103:14).  “We do not have a high priest who is unable to feel sympathy for our weaknesses” (Heb 4:15). He understands us and the secret things we hide even from ourselves,  and to win us back, he offered himself. Let us see Him in His glory and in His humility. This is indeed the glorious Lord - the Lord who created the heavens, the complexity of an atom, whose mind brought forth equations that hold the universe together, whose hand created the beauty of a rose or a sunset, the sound of an oboe. But this is also the Lord whose  wept, whose heart forgave a prostitute, touched a leper’s eyes, and said on the cross “Not my will, but thy will be done.”  As Tim Keller said, “This is the love you have been looking for all your life. This is the only love that can’t let you down. This is bombproof love. Not friend-love, not personal acclaim, not married love, and not even romantic love - it is this love that you are after, underneath your pursuit of all the others.”  Jesus is just asking us to come, exercising what little faith we have. He passionately desires to comfort us, guide us, love us, reassure us, and answer our prayers with His perfect timing and in His perfect will. “What then shall we say in response to these things?”

Prayer Prompt: Dear Lord Jesus, I am ever conscious of my sins but when I look at you, I am overwhelmed that you are real, and that your love is real. You said you will never leave me nor forsake me. I surrender my fears and I lean my heart upon that promise, and I pray in confidence in  your promise  that you want me here, that you drew me here, and that you are listening. Amen.
