But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.: (1 Peter 3:15)
This is one of those verses that is sharpening the tip of the spear. It assumes that all the preparation has been done, the spear is battle ready and just needs sharpening. The only thing left is to complete the task. It’s a good idea to check whether we have completed the preparation. To give an answer, someone has to ask a question. This assumes that someone asks a question about our faith. All too often an answer is given when no question or another question was asked. Such answers are usually soon forgotten. It assumes there is a relationship with enough trust to ask the question. To build that trust requires the same gentleness and respect that you would use in giving an answer. To have a relationship means that you have cultivated a friendship with someone who has not yet come to faith. All too often Christians stop associating with non-Christians. So, there needs to be relationships with people who don’t know Christ who can see Christ in you to the point where they start asking questions about what makes you different. If you are at that point a good place to start is to practice your testimony.
Prayer Prompt: Lord please show me how to be ready to share my faith and fill my heart with the gentleness and respect you have for the person who will hear me share.
