In August 2021 the world watched as the U.S. withdrew from Afghanistan and the Taliban took over the country. Many Afghans were forced to flee, and the Grace Chapel community ran a campaign to help several of these families make a new start here in Massachusetts. We donated household goods, finances, and time. We formed family support teams around ten Afghan families to provide help in acclimating to their new homes, finding doctors, getting their kids in school, finding jobs, etc.
How did it go? Where are they now?
The focus of the evening will be a presentation from Zubair Shukoory, an Afghan TV Journalist who barely escaped the Taliban, fled with his family to Brazil, nearly drowned and hiked over the mountains to the US. It is a harrowing story which he has chronicled with pictures and video.
The evening will also be filled with encouraging updates from our Afghan Family Teams! Psss….I hear there is going to be Bedford Farms ice-cream!
Please join us Sunday, September 24, 7-8:30pm, 2 Militia Drive in Lexington, room 105. Let’s show them that they are not forgotten.
Please register to let us know you are coming.
