MAPS Knitting Class

MAPS - Mature Adult Programs

We believe God is calling us to take His love to adults, 55 and older, in the Lexington area and in the surrounding communities as well at to those within Grace Chapel. We hope to foster spiritual growth, fellowship, caring, sharing, and recreational development. Our program includes:

Monthly Luncheons Series - the first or second Wednesday of each month

Adventures in Learning Classes

Classes are divided into fall, winter and spring terms. Classes meet each Wednesday from 9:15 AM to 12:15 PM in the Adult Learning Center at 2 Militia Drive. Pre-registration not required. There are coffee, singing, and a devotional time at 10:45 AM for everyone. A volunteer group called "Craig’s Crew" meets each week to use their skills and talents around the Grace Chapel campus property.

The winter and spring 2010 terms are January 6 through February 24 and March 3 through May 5, respectively. The class schedule is as follows:

Wednesday mornings 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM, Room 2-202 

Oil Painting  You will be guided through basic techniques to complete landscapes and seascapes. Beginners welcome.
Wednesday mornings 9:15 AM to 12:15 PM, Room 2-201
Instructor: Lew Raftery - oil painter and admirer of the late artist Bob Ross and other artists.

Wood Carving  This class explores wood carving using a knife, chisels, and gouges. All experience levels are welcome.

Preserving the Legacy: Scrapbooking  Put your photos in album pages with simple techniques that are easy and fun, yet have dramatic visual impact.
$30 materials fee.

Eric in the Morning - "Nutrition 101"  Explores nutrition guidelines, memory enhancement, exercise, stress reduction, tips for a better mind, etc.

Common Sense (Current Events)  A discussion of a necessity in short supply in our political and cultural life in America.

The Moldova Project - Knitting  Beginners and experienced knitters are welcome to this class where members are knitting items for the children of the orphanages in Moldova, partnering with our sister church, Jesus Savior Church.

ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages  This class will help anyone who wants to learn the English language. If you are applying for American citizenship or wanting help in order to speak better English, this class is designed for you.

Monthly Luncheons Series

Events are scheduled for the first or second Wednesday of each month with guest speakers who cover a wide range of topics. Reservations are due by noon on the Monday before the luncheon. Get reservation forms at the information desk or visitors’ center, or reserve by calling 781-862-8351 ext 2203. Cost: $9 per person. The schedule for Spring 2010 is as follows:

Travel

Travel is enjoyed by the MAPS group and others who join us. A Fall Foliage trip occurs in October each year. Past day trips have included visits to the Boston Pops and museums as well as summer boats trips and good seafood meals. Longer travel trips have included Lancaster, PA. and the music of Branson, MO. Get reservation forms at the information desk or visitors’ center. Trips planned are as follows:

June 1, 2010  Boston Pops with Dave Brubeck and Keith Lockhart. $40 per person.

Summer 2010  A trip to Greece is being planned.
