Biblical responsibilities of Overseeing Elders
The metaphor most often used in New Testament to describe spiritual leaders is shepherd. Shepherds cared for, protected and lead their flocks. Grace Chapel Elders, partnering with the Senior Pastor and the Pastoral Staff, shepherd and steward Grace Chapel by four specific duties:
- Spiritual Growth – ensure all teaching and ministries conform to biblical accuracy, consistent with historical evangelical doctrine; leading people to grow in their faith and getting closer to God.
- Care and Comfort - pray for and with people and support them in times of physical illness, emotional distress, financial difficulty, personal and relational stress or spiritual direction.
- Ministry Oversight - ensure the public services, ministry programs and financial resources are conducted with excellence and effectiveness to reach the unchurched and disciple believers to go deeper in their devotion.
- Vision – developing plans and strategies to be constantly boldly stewarding ways to advancing Christ’s Kingdom within our sphere of influence
