Gary Thorburn, Elder
|
My wife Pat and I have been around Grace Chapel since the early 1980s. We live in Maynard. As native New Englanders, we're pretty rooted to the area and long ago made Grace Chapel our church home. Grace has been a wonderful place to raise Ben and Becky, our two children. Those years provided us with countless "Grace moments" that have shaped our lives as much as theirs. This is partly why Pat and I still serve in Kidstown, even though both our kids have left the nest and are now pursuing graduate degrees.
I've been serving on the Elder board since 2004, and was on the board for four years in the early 1990s. I count it a true privilege to serve this way at Grace. I'm really excited about how Grace Chapel has become more diverse in recent years. The Lord has been widening my horizons as I've served with Dana Baker on some multicultural church initiatives, including the 2010 Boston Ethnic America Network Summit.
Most of my career has been working in system software, but I have a degree in plant ecology dating way back to when Earth Day was young. I still enjoy getting outside to hike and "botanize" in local conservation areas. And as a classical music fan, if you call and I don't answer my phone, I probably have my headphones cranked, listening to Mahler or Ives.

Bill Burke, Executive Pastor
|
Bill Burke is the Executive Pastor at Grace Chapel and has been on staff since October of 2004. In his role, he functions as the leader of the pastoral and ministry staff organization. He reports to Senior Pastor Bryan Wilkerson and works closely with Bryan and the Board of Elders to implement and execute the agreed-upon vision, strategies and activities of the overall Grace Chapel ministry. He especially loves the opportunity to work closely with staff and volunteers to align their passions, gifts and approaches with the vision and mission of Grace – increasing the effectiveness of the ministry and allowing them to sense the true joy that comes with being used powerfully by God to achieve His goals through us.
Prior to joining the staff, Bill had a 29 year business career focused on human resource consulting for major business organizations. For the last 11 of those years, Bill was a partner with Ernst & Young in their Human Capital practice and was based in the Indianapolis office. Through this time, he was very active and involved in his local church serving in numerous volunteer capacities including treasurer, mission trip leader and chairman of the elder board. In recent years, Bill and his wife, Terri, sensed God leading them into full-time ministry – to use their gifts, skills and passions to advance the ministry of the local church.
Bill and Terri have been married for 34 years and live in Lexington. Their son, Patrick, and his wife, Leslie, live and work in Indianapolis. Their daughter, Meghan and her husband, Adam, live and work on Long Island in NY.
Bill and Terri love to run (he more slowly and less frequently than she!), travel and restore older homes (like their current 1840 model!).
Bill can be reached at (781)862-6499 x102 or bburke@grace.org.
