A Hungry Heart

We become more like Christ on the inside…when we want God to rule in our lives and the world, more than we want anything else in life.

Painting by Lori Dupre

A Hungry Heart
Come Follow Me…

"As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew.  They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  'Come follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.'  At once they left their nets and followed him."   -Mathew 4:18-20

The moment Peter and Andrew dropped their nets to follow Jesus was the moment they decided they did not need to be filled with the comfort of their stuff, their work, their status, or anything else in their lives. They simply dropped their nets, left their boat-perhaps even a catch of fish-and followed after a hunger and thirst for what pours out of God, not the things or behaviors of this world.

The man in this painting is today's Peter…a painting of the fantastical moment he decides to take a step toward personal transformation!  More than anything else, he wants God to rule in his life. The 'anything else' that he leaves behind in his nets could be selfishness, his status, his vacation home, pain from being wronged, worry, fear, sin, or perhaps even his job-whatever tangles him up so much that he can't follow after what he truly hungers for.  He may not know what is in store for him at this transformational moment, and others around him may balk, but he knows it is right and just and good, and he is hungry for it.

He thirsts for what pours out of God, and leaves his nets behind.
