Ed Bolton is Director of Development for New England Aftercare Ministries, which offers substance abuse treatment services. Ed’s principal responsibility is to present the “face of the ministry.” At a recent event, one of the graduates (speaking about his recovery) said that Ed’s comment that he loved him, and Ed’s encouragement not to give up, had been instrumental in his staying on to complete the program. Ed says, “It’s moments like this that make all of the work worth it.”
Bobby Bose has served for three decades among Diaspora peoples in major cities of the world, through evangelism, discipling, and teaching at local churches, Bible colleges and seminaries. Currently he serves as Global Urban Ministries Education Coordinator for EmmanuelGospelCenter, Boston, and teaches as an adjunct faculty at Gordon-Conwell Seminary’s Center for Urban Ministerial Education.
Alice Brown-Collins, Ph.D., is director for Black Campus Ministry in InterVarsity’s New England Region. She is a social psychologist and has been an assistant professor at BrownUniversity and WellesleyCollege, as well as adjunct professor at BrandeisUniversity. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband, Boris, and her two children, Jamal and Kateri.
Gregg Detwiler is Director of Intercultural Ministries at Boston’s EmmanuelGospelCenter. The mission is “to connect the Body of Christ across cultural lines…for the purpose of expressing and advancing the Kingdom of God… in Boston, New England, and around the world.” Prior to joining the staff of EGC in 2001, Gregg served as a church planter/pastor of a multicultural church in Boston and as a missions pastor. Gregg and his wife, Rita, live in Wilmington, MA, and have three children.
Todd and Leslie Engelsen head up PEER Servants, an organization serving ten indigenous microfinance institutions (MFIs) on five continents. These MFIs provide capital and business training to the materially poor, allowing them to start and grow small businesses. Todd has been president for 20+ years, while Leslie has been a volunteer since 2002. “It’s a joy to see the lives of the PEER Servants volunteers and staff enriched as they serve our board members, staff and clients of the partnering MFIs.”
Bill Henson founded FOTOS Ministries in 2005 with a mission to help churches care for and extend Christ to GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) people. He serves as president and also hosts the ministry’s radio show, Lead Them Home. “What I love most about thisministry is seeing God transform people from bias, judgment, and fear to a redemptive love that radically looks like our Prodigal God. Helping the Church to Love and Lead Gay People Home to Jesus – that’s what we do.”
Bob and Alyce Johnson have served with Proclaim! International in the Balkans since 2000. Bob is one of three co-directors. Both Bob and Alyce serve as members of the International Council, the body that provides overall authority of the ministries and staff of the mission. Alyce assists Bob in the responsibilities for the ministries of the mission in the Mediterranean region.
Bryan and Mary Keef have served with Wycliffe Bible Translators since 1973, serving 21 years in Australia with the Australian Aboriginal & Islander Branch. Bryan was a carpenter and printer while Mary was a secretary, receptionist, and keyboarded Aboriginal Scriptures. From 1999-2009 the Keefs served with Wycliffe USA while helping aging parents. Now the Keefs will return to Wycliffe Australia. Bryan will help maintain the BibleTranslationTrainingCenter and Wycliffe offices; Mary will assist the National Director’s office.
Chadi and Joyce M. serve as Executive Directors of Cedar Home and act as parents to 20-24 girls from age 5 to 25. The girls are either at risk of abuse, already abused, or have been subject to child prostitution. Cedar Home provides a protective home by addressing the spiritual, educational, emotional, social, and physical needs of the children. “Joyce and I love the place God put us in, where we see a withering child bloom, becoming a strong young lady serving God.”
David Miller reaches out to international students in Boston. In addition to meetings with students, he and his family (Joy, Ian, and Lausanne) have hosted residents in their home from India, Korea, Madagascar, Mongolia, Nicaragua, and Nigeria. He works through Grace Chapel, International Students Inc. (ISI), and the Coalition for International Students. Although his official title is “campus minister,” most of his work is off campus.
Anucha (Noiy) Prommathat is the director of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Ratchaburi, Thailand. “We work alongside the local church to be a blessing to the small churches in our town. We evangelize in the local schools and university, run a children’s Bible study, English camps, and seminars, and minister to a Burmese refugee community.” Noiy has been staff with YWAM Thailand since 2003, and his wife, Bronwyn, started in 2006.
Sam and Pat Sarvis have been serving with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Thailand since 1981. They served many years in Cambodian refugee camps and in the slums of Bangkok. They are involved in serving the poor and needy as well as providing pastoral care for YWAM ministry leaders around the nation. Sam and Pat, who have three grown children, will return to Thailand in January 2010 and expect to be there for the rest of their lives.
Manoj Shrestha is principal of Nepal Ebenezer Bible College in Kathmandu, Nepal. EBC educates and trains pastors in three-year bachelor’s degree and degree programs. Following graduation, the new pastors assume a pastoral position in one of the churches affiliated with the National Churches Fellowship of Nepal. There is also a one-year non-residential training program for pastors and leaders unable to leave their local ministry.
Pastor Claire Sullivan has been Director of Straight Ahead Ministries since 2002 and a missionary to the poor since 1989. Straight Ahead is a national and global Christian organization working with juvenile offenders. In May, they worked to help 32 rival gang members, incarcerated together, find reconciliation— and to launch Ready4Life in Lynn. Claire was the founding director of Starlight Ministries of the EmmanuelGospelCenter from 1990-2001.
Rich and Judy Swanson, with their four children, serve with Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) in Boston. God has chosen to give unique sway over world events to the leaders who come to study in this area. The college campus environment is a wonderful place to present the message of Jesus. Both Rich and Judy grew up in Colorado and were educated at the University of Colorado. They have served in Arizona, Argentina, Colorado, and now Boston.
Pastor Posan Ung, having lived through the Cambodian holocaust and grown up as a refugee, is uniquely in touch with the Cambodian experience and aware of Cambodians’ need for the gospel. Since 2001, Pastor Ung has been examined and approved to serve as the Cambodian Minister-at-Large and serves as director of Cambodian Ministries International.
Seth and Lauren Vitrano-Wilson are preparing to serve with SIL in Thailand. Seth will be working as an Orthography Consultant (helping people write down their language for the first time) while Lauren will be the Language Learning Coordinator for their branch. The region where they will be working has over 50 million people who do not yet have a single word of Scripture in the language they understand best. They look forward to helping their colleagues learn unwritten languages and helping speakers of minority languages in mainland Southeast Asia to come to know and love God.
Ota and Renata Vozeh work with I.N. Network, developing and coordinating the work in the post-communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe. In addition, Ota has assisted with the development of ministries in Turkey, Monaco, and Switzerland. I.N. Network’s focus is on connecting Christians around the world in evangelism, discipleship, and community development. October-November 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism. Ota and Renata will celebrate 40 years of missionary service in January 2010.
Bethany Wolf works with Interserve in Pune, India. Touched by the plight of women and children with HIV/AIDS, she wanted to minister to this neglected and ostracized segment of Indian society. In June 2006, she began work with Oasis at a rehabilitation home for children and women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. This past year she became acting director. Bethany will be in the States until December and will then return to India.
